Nestled within the verdant embrace of Singleton Park, Swansea Botanical Gardens is a tranquil haven where exotic plants bloom year-round. Swansea Botanical Gardens offers something to admire all year round. From late March to mid-October, the herbaceous borders present a stunning display, while the various glasshouses provide shelter during bad weather, ensuring that the garden remains attractive even in the winter months.
Originally a private estate owned by the Vivian family, the land was purchased by the Swansea Corporation in 1919 to be used as a public park. The Educational Gardens, established in 1926, were initially intended to showcase economic plants and British flora. Renamed the Botanical Gardens in 1991, the site now features a renowned double herbaceous border, significant mature trees, rare exotic plants from around the world, a rock garden, an herb garden, and a new wildflower garden that opened in 2017.
The 40-meter double herbaceous borders were part of the original ‘Educational Gardens’ established in the 1920s and have undergone minimal changes since then. Some of the plants found here may even be divisions of those originally planted, adding to the historical significance of the gardens.
